Skulls

Nahem Shoa’s  oil paintings and drawings of skulls  are iconic images overloaded with meanings and associations depending on culture and history. Shoa has reinterpreted and transformed them from the cliché back to something fresh. Today we mainly associate skulls with death and evil. However, in ancient cultures it had the opposite association. The skull represented "life": the reverence of humanity in the flesh, the embodiment of consciousness and the house of the soul.
"I have completed many drawings and paintings of skulls or section of skulls," says Shoa.
